Measuring deformations using SAR interferometry and GPS observables with geodetic accuracy

ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
This paper presents new methodology for correcting interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) deformation maps using GPS observables and products. The methodology presents a sequential procedure for correcting the errors presented in InSAR deformation maps such as troposphere delay, ionosphere delay and baseline error.

Surface deformation monitoring using SAR interferograms and GPS observables: Application to Tokyo

Conference: IGARSS 2014
This paper presents a method to monitor surface deformations using SAR interferometry and GPS observables. In this analysis we used least squares to reduce the errors presented in InSAR deformation maps temporally then we used a GPS based spatial phase filtering to spatially filter the estimated deformation maps.

Geodetic accuracy observations of regional land deformations caused by the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake

Doctoral Thesis Abstract

Estimating Deformation of the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake in Kanto Region, Japan, using InSAR Time Series

The 58th Spring Conference of the Remote Sensing Society of Japan
We propose a methodology to estimate crustal deformations in Kanto, Japan, which has been affected by the 2011 Tohoku earthquake using InSAR and GPS. First, we choose a proper deformation trend(s) that accurately describe the earthquake deformation signature by studying the observation of a single GPS station. Then, we subtract the modeled deformation from the unwrapped phase. The residual phase is filtered temporally and spatially and then added back to the modeled deformation.

Measuring deformations due to liquefaction in Urayasu City, Japan using permenant scatterers

International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium 2015 (IGARSS 2015),
As a result of the M9.0 megathrust 2011 Tohoku earthquake that struck Japan on March 11, 2011; several areas suffered from local deformations due to soil liquefactions. Measuring soil liquefaction deformations is not an easy task because of the total loss of signal coherence in the affected regions. The main target of this analysis is to estimate structure deformation due to soil liquefaction phenomenon using PS-InSAR technique in Urayasu city, Japan.

Coseismic and postseismic deformation estimation of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake in Kanto Region

Remote Sensing of Environment
We propose a methodology using interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) time series analysis and a single GPS station to estimate the coseismic and postseismic crustal deformations in the Kanto region, Japan, which has been affected by the 2011 Tohoku earthquake. The proposed methodology depends on choosing a proper deformation trend(s) to accurately describe the earthquake deformation signature by studying the deformation time series of a single GPS station.

Estimating deformation due to soil liquefaction in Urayasu city, Japan using permanent scatterers

ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
In Japan, several cities endured severe damage due to soil liquefaction phenomenon, which was developed in association with the massive shaking of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake. Measuring soil liquefaction deformations was not an easy task, mainly because of the total loss of signal coherence in the affected regions. In this paper, we present our approach to estimate the deformations associated with soil liquefaction using interferometric synthetic aperture radar techniques.
